    Alexander Maksik discusses his new novel, SHELTER IN PLACE: set in the Pacific Northwest in the early 1990s, the story follows a young man who falls in love for the first time while also experiencing the onset of bipolar disorder. When his mother, also bipolar, commits murder, the course of his life changes forever. Alexander Maksik is the author of the novels You Deserve Nothing (Europa, 2011) and A Marker to Measure Drift (Knopf, 2013), which was a New York Times Book Review Notable Book, as well as a finalist for both the William Saroyan International Prize for Writing and Le Prix du Meilleur Livre Étranger.
