Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, Katherine Boo, discusses "Behind the Beautiful Forevers", which was awarded the 2012 National Book Award for Nonfiction. Based on three years of uncompromising reporting, the book is a portrait of Annawadi, a makeshift settlement in the shadow of luxury hotels near the Mumbai airport. As India starts to prosper, poverty-stricken Annawadians hope their fortunes will change.
This series is made possible in part with support from the National Endowment for the Arts and with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
